Player Of The BlockBLOCK THREEAmerican League: The Chicago Blue Knights have started off the 2006 season on a blistering pace and one of the big reasons why is the Player Of The Block award winner, Pedro Martinez. Pedro carried the Blue Knight bullpen on his back as he completed each of his three starts, also giving his team’s offense a rest on his starts, allowing only two runs total. Pedro also struck out 30 batters in the three starts. When asked about his 7-2 record, Pedro merely stated, “It’s easy to pick up wins pitching with an offense as great as we have, but I go out there every start looking to dominate the other guys. So far so good, I guess.” Honorable Mentions:
National League: Miguel Cabrera has been incredible in recent days garnering this Player Of The Block award. He has hit .492 over his last 65 at bats, including 15 runs scored and 19 RBIs. Cabrera has been a huge part of the struggling Philadelphia Phanatics team. He also added a very solid six homeruns. Cabrera was pleased with receiving the award stating, “This is great, but let me just tell you why! I was so sick of reading the papers so far and seeing Toronto getting all of these awards. Finally someone else gets it!” Honorable Mentions:
