American
League - Lyle Overbay, Houston Black Dogs
Lyle Overbay's
tenure in Houston has been a mediocre one, to say the least. However,
he finally began to show signs of a resurgence in Block 5, as Overbay went
11 for 22 with 3 home runs in 6 games. His .500/.522/1.045 line was a
big reason why the Houston is now only 1 game out of first place behind
Milwaukee.
Honorable Mention:
Joe Blanton [MIL] 2-0, 0.71 ERA, 2 GS, 12 2/3 IP, 7 H, 13 Ks
Akinori Iwamura [TEX] 11-25, .440/.481/.840, 2 HR, 6 RBI
Melvin Mora [CHA] 11-30, .367/.367/.833, 4 HR, 6 RBI
Jose Reyes [HOU] 11-30, .367/.441/.633, 7 runs scored, 5 SBs
National
League -- James Shields, Atlanta Mets
Veteran starter
James Shields helps right the Atlanta Mets ship in Block 5, by spinning two
gems. Shields shut down the St. Louis Red Birds and Detroit Outlaws in
back-to-back starts, allowing only 2 earned runs in 15 2/3rds innings
pitched. He also racked up 9 strikeouts in improving his record to 6-3
on the year. Atlanta will need Shields to be the ace they envisioned
before the season starts if they want to harbor any thoughts about the
postseason in 2009.
Honorable Mention:
Alex Gordon [BAL] 11-27, .407/.467/.778, 3 HR, 8 RBIs

Hanley Ramirez [ANA] 12-30, .400/.455/.767, 3 HR, 9 RBIs
Greg Smith [ATL] 2-0, 2.45 ERA, 14 2/3 IP, 11 H, 10 Ks
