****REPEAT OF PRIOR MESSAGE...LOTTERY RESULTS BELOW****
Hi all - on noon Eastern on Friday, August 1st, we'll be conducting the SPIBA Draft Lottery.

All non-playoff teams (17-24 in final standings) will be eligible for the draft lottery that impacts the first round order only.  Weighted percentages as specified below will be applied, which will give the teams with the least amount of points the best chance for a high draft pick.  Only the top three picks are decided by the lottery, with the rest of the first round determined by inverse order of finish.

Odds for a randomly generated selection:

Worst record: 1-25
2nd worst record: 26-45
3rd : 46-60
4th : 61-72
5th : 73-81
6th  82-89
7th : 90-95
8th worst record: 96-100

On Friday, I will use www.random.org to generate a random list of integer values between 1 and 100 (each "iteration" of an item on the list will be from 1-100).  Based on the table below, if the first number in the list falls between a range of values identified with the team, that team "wins" the lottery and moves up to the first overall pick.  We'll then repeat this for the 2nd and 3rd overall picks (any "repeat" lottery winner drawn gets thrown out, and the next number is used).  4th through 8th in the round will then be re-sorted based on inverse record, with the worse remaining team getting the 4th pick, etc.

In other words:
A simple explanation: 100 different outcomes of an experiment exist and are equally likely to occur. A certain number of outcomes is assigned to each non-playoff SPIBA team. The largest number of outcomes is assigned to the team with the worst record. The team with the second worst record gets the second largest number of outcomes, and so on for each of the 8 teams in the lottery. The experiment is conducted, and the team to which the winning outcome was assigned receives the 1st pick in the SPIBA draft. The experiment is conducted again. If the winner is the same team that already won, the experiment is performed over again until there is a different winner. The winner of the second experiment receives the 2nd pick. The winner of the third experiment receives the 3rd pick. After the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks are determined, the 4th-8th picks are assigned to teams based on weakness of record.

Same as how the NBA does it...but we're using an online random number generator instead of a giant plastic hopper filled with ping pong balls.  Which admittedly would be much cooler, but I don't have one :)

Los Angeles Surf (17-65) #s 1-25, 25% chance of receiving the #1 pick
Denver Karma (18-64) #s 26-45, 20% chance of receiving the #1 pick
Memphis Rockers (19-63) #s 46-60, 15% chance of receiving the #1 pick
Los Angeles Freedom Fighters (23-59) #s 61-72, 12% chance of receiving the #1 pick
Orlando Octopus (32-50) #s 73-81, 9% chance of receiving the #1 pick
New York Americans (34-48) #s 82-89, 8% chance of receiving the #1 pick
Washington Illusion (36-46) #s 90-95, 6% chance of receiving the #1 pick
Indiana Dragons (39-43) #s 96-100, 5% chance of receiving the #1 pick

Please let me know if any questions/concerns.

Thanks,
Mike S.

Random Integer Generator

Here are your random numbers (with my notes appended):

15 - first number drawn is "15", this falls within Los Angeles Surf's assigned range, Los Angeles receives the #1 overall pick
93 - second number drawn is "93", this falls within Washington Illusion's assigned range, Washington receives the #2 overall pick
35 - third number drawn is "35", this falls within Denver Karma's assigned range, Denver receives the #3 overall pick
Commish note:  I generated 100 random numbers, the numbers below were generated but not used, since the first 3 numbers drawn had no repeat team winners.  I'm including them anyway for transparency purposes.
