Jose Capellan - has seemingly
found his niche in short relief, as having a fine year in Milwaukee. Can be
dominating with even a slight improvement in command. Possible future
closer.
Joel Hanrahan - has been passed up by a slew of pitchers in the Dodgers'
system. Now seemingly middle relief/AAAA guy.
Todd Linden - really needs to be given 400 major league at-bats someday.
Has proven all he can at AAA, and you'd think switch hitters who have a little
pop could find a spot on a MLB bench. Doesn't project to be more than a 4th/5th
OFer or bench guy at this point.
John Mayberry Jr. - struggling in A ball, which is not what you want to
see from a college guy. Not hitting for much power either, which is worrisome.
Doesn't look like a future regular at this point, and might not even see the
Show.
Brian McCann - has developed into one of the better catchers in baseball,
combining average, power, and solid defense. I had doubts about him being able
to hold off Saltalamacchia, but those doubts have been disspelled. He's the
real deal.
Clint Nageotte - great slider, but not much else. Might make a useful
short
reliever someday, but he's running out of time.
Kelly Shoppach - went from backing up Jason Varitek to backing up Victor
Martinez. Will never get more than 200 at-bats a season unless he gets dealt.
Ian Snell - this is more like it. Beginning to harness his filthy stuff,
and
may have worked self back into Pirates' plans. Still struggles with command,
but can now be thought of as future rotation guy.
Neil Walker - doing okay, but more is expected. There is talk that
Walker may not be able to stick at catcher; if this is the case, his value
plummets.
Doesn't have enough power to stick at a corner OF spot.
